ab..normal

Well, no, we are not really in the type of research hinted by the above picture --- for this one you may want to look at its full story or listen to an icon dialogue.
Neither we are (quite) abnormal in that sense. Rather we are a research group concerned with “abnormal” probability distributions.

A talk by Cinzia Carota & an "Abnormal round table"

On 28th June 2007 at 14:30, at the Department of Statistical Sciences of the University of Padua, Cinzia Carota will deliver a talk entitled “Model choice: score tests, invariant tests and Bayesian diagnostics”. Although not immediately visible from the title, the talk does have a connection with “The Skew”, as explained in the talk abstract available from the department web-site

Since a numerous attendance from various units of the Abnormal Group is expected, this offers the chance of a small and informal meeting. Therefore, after the talk and a little break, an “abnormal round table” will take place, to discuss informally questions connected to our project. Anybody interested is welcome, whether or not people are official members of the Abnormal Group.

... am I late?

Dear All,
I’m very happy to take part in this group and I find really like the idea of building a blog to exchange informations (and more!!) about the Skew Normal.
At moment following the paper of Capitanio, Azzalini, Stanghellini (Graphical models for skew normal variates, 2003) and thanks to the suggestions of Professor Capitanio I’m working with the (extended) Skew Normal distribution and I’m considering the model selection problem in the context of graphical models. In particular, my idea is to propose a model selection procedure for concentration graphs when the variables are jointly Skew Normal, able to identify zeros in the inverse Omega matrix and in the alpha vector.

As a fan film and music I couldn’t not use films or song titles for the slogan of this blog, therefore my suggestions are:

The lords of the Skew…or …
All you need is Skew!!!

At the end seen as the Skew Normal distribution is not on Wikipedia why don’t we try to rectify the situation?
